Mitsubishi Plans to Make More Plug-In Hybrid Models
As anyone here at Lovering Mitsubishi in Concord can tell you, Mitsubishi is an automaker that’s accustomed to pushing the envelop in terms of style and performance, as drivers throughout the Manchester area have come to expect. We’re excited to announce that Mitsubishi’s leadership is now extending into the realm of efficiency, as the automaker intends to have at least 20% of its lineup composed of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2020. This forward-thinking business plan will build off of the success of models like the 2013 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and should be a boon for drivers who are looking to drive as efficiently as possible.
It’s true that this move is at least in part due to the inevitable rise of emission-limiting regulations in both Europe and the United States, but it will also have a positive effect on the pocketbooks of people who choose to drive these vehicles. After all, nobody wants to pay more than they have to for fuel!
Along with the news of Mitsubishi’s new focus on plug-in hybrid technology is the automaker’s plans to redesign its crossover, SUV, and pickup offerings. Sure, Mitsubishi doesn’t currently offer pickup trucks in the U.S., but the combination of a focus on redesigning these vehicles and furthering hybrid technology could mean that we’ll see them on U.S. shores in the coming years.
The most immediate result of this new focus is the Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicle), which went on sale in Europe just last month. According to Mitsubishi, this model is able to travel up to 32 miles on electric power alone. You can expect this model to go on sale in the United States sometime next year — it will be Mitsubishi’s first plug-in hybrid offering in the U.S.
These are exciting times with Mitsubishi making bold choices to enhance the efficiency of its already impressive lineup. While we wait for plug-in hybrids to arrive at our dealership, we’d love to show you everything that the current Mitsubishi lineup has to offer.
